Breakfast… it’s the best meal of the day, right?!
Harrogate is awash with many great choices for breakfast, whether it’s the good old full English, the veggie option or for the more health conscious, yogurt with a nice helping of fruit… whatever floats your boat Harrogate has it in spades!
In the interest of research (it’s a hard job but someone’s got to do it) I have been enjoying breakfast at a number of Harrogate’s popular eateries and here are my faves…
Manna Bakery
Just around the corner from St Mary’s, Manna Bakery is perfectly located for our guests. With a vast array of breads, pastries and excellent coffee it is a firm favourite of ours. Their breakfast offering is excellent with lots of hot sandwiches, pancakes and colourful delights such as their halloumi muffin which is a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds!
The Ivy
In a prime position on Parliament Street the Ivy offers a totally refined dining experience. In beautiful surroundings you can enjoy a wide variety of breakfast options, a cracking full English or a substantial veggie option plus a number of egg dishes. The Ivy also offers ‘lighter’ breakfast options including Kippers, Muesli with Apple and Berries & Smoked Salmon on Dark Rye Bread. Give it a whirl you won’t be disappointed!
Hoxton North
The coolest vibe in town, Hoxton North has a real New York feel about it. Very relaxed, it has a great atmosphere and with its super friendly staff I can see why this place is so popular. With a good breakfast selection, with all the usual classics, they also offer a great veggie option and their Greek Yogurt, homemade Granola and fruit is super tasty. For a special treat I would recommend their French Toast… it’s delicious!
Balterzens
Family owned, Balterzens has a real Scandi connection which is reflected in their design and menu offering. Although Balterzens do not offer a wide choice of breakfast items what they do offer is of excellent quality, porridge, yogurt and breakfast buns make up most of their breakfast menu but there is also a great selection of pastries (their cinnamon buns are to die for) and great coffee.
Betty’s
Quintessentially English, Betty’s is almost a rite of passage for visitors to Harrogate. Centrally located on Parliament Street it is in a prime spot and very popular amongst locals and visitors alike. Be prepared to queue pretty much at any time of the day but be ready for a relaxed and refined dining experience.
Betty’s offers all the usual breakfast favourites, the good old full English, a vegan version a selection of egg muffin dishes and their speciality of pan fried Swiss rosti with bacon, tomato, field mushroom and poached egg or a veggie version with wilted spinach… delicious!
With so many options it’s difficult to choose one so why not give them all a go?!
Enjoy!
